About a year ago when I started to post the first Wellpark photos on the internet, I was contacted by one Wellpark 'child' who told me his parents had had a shop in London, which they named "Wellpark". Unfortunately I misplaced your email address and name, but if that was you please get in contact. We would love to put a name and a few more details to this little story.
More than 30 years on, the good ship “ Wellpark” sails on! After her days as a cadet ship, Wellpark was re-registered in Hong Kong and was renamed “Ga Chau”. In 1994 she was sold to a Cypriot company and had her name changed to “Nava Avra”, and later to “Avra D” when transferred to another company in Cyprus. More recently “Wellpark” has been tracked down and we find that she is owned by a Chinese company, Adani Shipping, who bought her in 2004 and re-named her “Firstec”. Perhaps it is testament to all that painting that the cadets (and a few Vietnamese hands) did 30 years ago to keep her in pristine condition, that she looks almost the same today (see photos: Top: "Wellpark" in Kaohsiung October 1978, Bottom: "Firstec", 2008). And apparently she is still going strong!
Anyway you can locate/google name of business owner under name of "Wellpark" through London cityhall or government registry for businesses? That way you can track the owner or his/her parents down. They may not know about this event.
