Profile Information

Your Name:
Hung Nguyen
About Me:
A week after arriving in London with everyone else, I found a job at the library located within Kensington Barracks itself. You must have seen a handsome, strong young man (pulling a trolley full of wooden boxes containing heavy books) passing by you every weekday at the Barracks; that was me! I used to hang out with Sieu and Chau who were the kitchen managers. At the present time, (done with heavy boxes and no longer strong, young, and handsome,) I am a doctor with a private medical office in Garden Grove, California. My parents and sisters live nearby. My younger brother Hoang lives in Sacramento, while my other younger brother Huy and my cousins still call London their home.

Hi cousin anh Hung!

oh, don't bother about being no longer "strong, young and handsome (are you sure?! )" - at least you've kept your sense of humor!

Love,
Anh Chi

Wow, what a surprise! -- 2 "Chi" visiting! (very ... nutritious for both the body and the mind).

Chi Pham (Bich Chi), and some of us, may remember Bich Chi was one the most delicious baby food in Viet Nam before 1975. Thank you, Chi, for your great efforts in organizing this 30-year Wellpark Reunion which will no doubt be most meaningful and memorable not only for our survival then and our present very being now, but also for the survivors of those who unfortunately have been gone from this world.

Anh Chi, you know where your name came from; it was one of my favorite novels by Dinh Tien Luyen, "Anh Chi Yeu Dau" (I don't remember whether I found the book myself, or I borrowed it from your mom - who is, of course, my aunt -, who was so fond of the story that she named you after the young heroine). I'm very proud to have you as my cousin, a beautiful, thoughtful and articulate mother of 4. When I was 9 or 10 years old, your dad used to take care of me. He would show me around Saigon on his Honda on weekends when I visited our grandmother's home (Thang Long) from my boarding school Lasan Mossard. He used to break blocks of ice with his bare hand to my admiring eyes. Your dad was a strong yet reserved and gentle man. I'm sure he would have been very proud of his daughter had he been around today.

Just jotting down pieces of my memory (before long, it may succumb to the drag of Alzheimer's dementia!). Nothing will last forever, but certain memory may comfort us, here and now. Especially the memory of kindness and humanity once-upon-a-time bestowed on us by the Wellpark crew and the British people beginning on the fateful first night of October in 1978 ....

Hi anh Hung, I am glad to see you on this site. How are you? I have not seen you for about 9 years. Based on your picture, you are still very good looking!

I will coordinate with my sisters and take you to lunch soon.

Hi anh Hung,

We were talking about bac Trieu (our Vietnamese Captain) last week and how to find him. I emailed Mike Newton to check on his site for Phong Vo email's address. Phong wrote an article on SN site mentioned that his Dad was the Vietnamese Captain, so I asked Mike to tracked Phong down which he did in a day. Phong is now one of our member. I left Phong a message to see if his father can make it. Those of us who work long hours can only go online late at night like you, me and Van. Thanks for checking in anh Hung. Chi

Hi Chi,

It would be great if our boat's captain (Bac Trieu) can make it to the Wellpark Reunion. I hope he is in good health!
Good work, Chi, on tracking down Bac Trieu and his son!

Anh Hung,

Thanks for writing some of your memories - I could listen to them for always. I see my father through your eyes....I'd love to hear more family stories when you have time.

Anh-Chi,
My memory is not that clear. Just bits and pieces!
I was in 4th and 5th grades at Lasan Mossard Boarding School (in Thu Duc) when I spent most weekends staying at our grandparents' house in Saigon. Your dad and his younger brother (Uncle Tien) were roomates. I was their ... weekend roomate. Our older cousin (anh Binh) was around, too. I remember the 3 of them would argue about every subject matter. I used to ... secretly cheer for your dad (he was my favorite uncle). They were all single at that time. I still remember what they looked like then. Uncle Tien and anh Binh were typical college students (somewhat ... nerdy). Your dad was different. He was lean, dark and strong. He was very keen on exercising.
I still remember what you and your brother looked like when you were little, say, in 1978. Though not dark-skinned, you both have big, round eyes, probably taking after your dad's (of course, yours were much cuter and more feminine).
Time passed by. As we met again last year, I could see you still have those eyes. Cheers!

Love,

Anh Hung
