Wellpark 35 Year Reunion - What a Party!!!

On Saturday 19 October 2013 in London, we celebrated the reunion of the Wellpark crew and the rescued Vietnamese boat passengers of the stricken MT151 after 35 years.

With the chance of a new future, we just got on and did the best we could with making a life.  Even though many years have passed, that feeling of wanting to be able to say a personal thank you to our heroes have always stayed with us.  After the LA reunion 5 years ago, we had to opportunity to meet so many more crew…

Are you one of the boys in the photo in the site's banner?

Are you coming to the reunion in London on Sat 19 October?  Trung Tuan Huynh and Minh Huynh are attending and we would love to recreate that photo.  Were you one of the other six boys?

Wellpark 35 Year Reunion 2013

The 30th Wellpark family reunion was held in LA in August 2008. It was an emotional event with the promise of a 35th reunion in 2013 in London.

This is to call all who were on the boat to a reunion to mark the beginning of a new life made possible by the Wellpark crew.  All 346 rescued lives arrived in London, England on 16 October 1978 to start a new life.

So how about a big party on Saturday 19 October 2013 in London? We would like to invite Captain Hector Connell…

The rescue

ANDREW GRIFFIN The rescue

Andrew or Andy as he was called onboard ship told us some of the things of the night of the rescue, so what I write is second hand.

I remember him saying the ship had been spotted, and I am sure he was in the wheel house of the ship at the time, I think it may have been him who saw it, but I have not been able to find out for definite.

The flare was seen and the captain called, after some discussion it was agreed that Andy and the training…

Who’s idea was it to have a reunion?

Who’s idea was it to have a reunion?

What was the catalyst that brought a few like minded people together with a desire to rekindle the extraordinary bond originally forged in a chance meeting in the South China Sea almost 30 years before?

No one who had been part of that encounter could have forgotten the events of the first stormy night and the amazing two weeks that followed it. But since then, over the intervening decades, the 395 people who were on “Wellpark” in… Continue

Hello,

I hope everyone had a good time at the reunion. I had a blast! I can't believe it is over already! I guess times fly when you are having fun :)

Just a reminder, we are still collecting memoirs, letters, poems, and especially the pictures from the reunion for the Memory book "Journey to Freedom". Please take the time to write down your thoughts, feelings and memories and send it to Chi.

When the book is ready, I will send out a notification for the book… Continue

Need Your Current Picture(s)

Hello all,

Our reunion is coming up in less than 2 weeks. We're getting down to the wire and still so much things to get in order. I'm sure that you all are thrilled as much as I and are looking forward to seeing each other again after all these years.

With that said, I'm assisting with sorting the WP pictures and would like to incorporate your or your family latest pictures for the slide show. For those who regretably unable to join us due to timing/schedule, we… Continue

Journey to Freedom

Memories - Chi Pham - My Recollection of our Journey 30 years ago.

After the fall of Saigon in April 1975 my father was taken from our family on June 1975 to a re-education camp located the remote jungle of Northern Vietnam. He was a Captain in the Military Signal Corp for the South Vietnamese government. Our life was forever altered along with other millions of Vietnamese in the South. I was 11 years old at the time, the oldest of three girls. My sisters were 8… Continue
