About Me:: Mark Ohlenschlager and I were on the bridge that night, him inside (senior cadet),and me (junior cadet) shivering on he starboard bridge wing. Never saw the flare but was lucky to have the helm, and at 17. Was scared stiff of making a mistake, which I did with the heading read backs a couple of times, but Capt Hector Connell was as cool as a cucumber and calmed me down........thank god.
Left Denholm in 81 and after a couple of years doing little joined the RAF as airman aircrew to track russian submarines. Was great until the end of the cold war but still flying Nimrods around the world. Were ever there is trouble a Nimrod is there...presently instructing ab-initio aircrew at Kinloss, Morayshire and then hopefully off to the states on Reaper UCAVs. Married and have 3 boys 2 of which are still bleeding me dry. Youngest son and I dive where we can for spare time, wife justs soaks the sun! Have limited memories of my 2 times on the Wellpark and they get mixed up as it was 30 years ogo, my excuse anyway. Oh, and just for the record Micheal, I had crossed the line before, on the Andros on my previous trip which did the Hong Kong to Sydney run....still...not bitter lol. Will try to raid my Dads photo albums and upload some photos.
