Profile Information

Your Name:
Craig Holmes
About Me:
I first joined Wellpark as a junior cadet in the Hiroshima shipyard when she was built and did two trips in her. I was a senior cadet in her during the time of the rescue and later paid off in Ulsan drydock in Korea (after breaking my leg playing football). I have been at sea, on and off, most of my life with various shipping companies, including my own for a short but harrowing period. I am now a New Zealander and have recently as a marine pilot at Port Otago (Port Chalmers & Dunedin), Stewart Island and Fiordland on the SW coast of NZ. From September 2008 to June 2011 I worked as a pilot in Port Walcott in North-West Australia.
The plan now is to travel extensively, to write and teach English, mainly to Chinese in China, so I can, in turn, improve my Mandarin fluency.
Relationship Status:
Married

Hi Craig,

If you've got any photos or printed material you want to put on the site, you should find it really easy. Just email if you have any problems.
Yes, I remember you breaking your leg. You got home quick, but we had a long a depressing journey back home. In fact it looked like we might not even get home for Christmas. We dragged our way round three Korean ports, had a quick stop in Hong Kong and then back to Europe with packs of timber in the bottom of the holds, with containers stacked on top. And about 10 pleasure cruisers. We came out past Gibraltar into the Atlantic and the stacks of containers started collapsing. So after a couple of days heaved to, riding out the storm, we went into Lisbon to take out and re-stack the cargo. A long the way many radio controlled toys fell out of their boxes, so the cadets had races up and down the alleyways. I think we all paid off in a foggy Rotterdam. Mike
